Here is a synopsis of the script;
Thirty year old Chester is a garbage man. He is kind and shy, his insecurities steming from the fact that he is ugly in an extremely unconventional way. His unchanging daily routine of collecting garbage with his friend, Luke, and spending evenings with the other garbagemen at the local hangout, provides a safe, sheltered life for Chester. The life he has created for himself doesn't force him to think about the greater picture of what he truly wants for himself.
Thoughts of wasted potential fill the days as the garbage routine moves into the future. He reminisces about high school days and a successful boy and popular peer named Bobby. Bobby had a bright future ahead of him and Chester thought him a leader.
One day on the route, a woman blurts out her honest opinion to Chester, "You should work as a monster in Horror movies". Chester is crushed, the comment pierces his sorest spot and accosts his long ignored dream of becoming an actor. The incident opens a can of worms that sends Chester looking for a deeper hole in which to hide.
Word comes that the high school wonder boy, Bobby, has died. At the funeral home, Chester looks into Bobby's casket and see's that the football star is bloated like a balloon, almost 300 pounds. Shocked, Chester wonders; Why did Bobby Get Fat?? He looks to Mrs. kalpinen, Bobby's mother, for answers. Her only interest lies in feeding Chester her pies and cakes. She begins mothering him and providing him the no-pressure, no guilt coccoon he was looking for.
Withdrawn from Luke and his garbagemen buddies, Chester thinks he has escaped from reality, but the mysterious question of Bobby continues to disturb him. Apparently Bobby never left home, he gave up his scholarship to college and shut the world out. As Chester begins to make sense of what really happened to Bobby, it answers questions in his own life.
At the climax of the film,chester confronts his repressed dreams and comes to terms with his looks, he decides to change his life. He realizes that he can turn his ugliness from a liability into an asset and takes the advice that so hurt him. <here is a snip from the script>
